Day 1
We hit the road right at Noon time, when Mitch got out of school on Good Friday. We
were pretty jazzed up for the trip. We had a little hesitation about setting out on
such a journey in our 1976 Holiday Rambler when the windshield wipers wouldn't come on.
Alas, found a loose plug under the dash and we were on our way!!!

We had planned on staying in Des Moines but wanted to keep making time. We opted to pull over into a hospital parking lot to grab some sleep around midnight but after the third set of sirens went off, we decided to keep going. We settled for a remote gas station at about 2 AM. We woke up to snow flurries the next morning.
